El Taco Dorado launched in 2023, but the Rodriguez family is no stranger to the food and service industry. Rubiel and Yolanda immigrated to the US from Mexico 30 years ago with limited financial resources and no fluency in the English language. Since then, they have worked numerous food restaurants and service jobs. They have two sons, and the Rodriguez's family values revolve around: hard work, dedication, discipline, challenge, loyalty, and gratitude.
Their two sons, Rubiel (Jr) and Michael, were always emphasized the importance of education by their parents, as it would lead to not having to work laborious jobs and long strenuous hours. Michael began working in a family restaurant at age 12, and Jr first joined the restaurant industry at age 15. As Michael’s college graduation was approaching in 2020, Jr and him agreed that they would think of a business idea for their family to no longer work difficult and long hour days for other employers.
Food has always been within our background, so it made perfect sense to launch a food truck. Since there are various food trucks in New Haven, our mission has been to build a unique menu. Our creativity is our strength (Yes, our burritos come with french fries inside, and our tortillas are hand made). Michael and Jrmade a promise to meet their goal by 2025, and they met their goal in just under three years. What makes El Taco Dorado unique is that they are building their own story brand. Originating from a low-income, under resourced background, to first time business owners. Building relationships and serving customers of all backgrounds is what we enjoy most and is represented in our values. In our first 8 months of launching, we have been able to serve in parties in New Haven, Wallingford, North Branford, West Haven, Hamden, Guilford, Shelton, Pomfret, Bristol, West Hartford, Manchester, Madison, and East Haven respectively.
